kelper > Water hyacinths are a real problem. There is a barrier just north of Philipkutty that separates the Backwaters into a brakish section (up to Kochi) and a fresh section. Before the monsoon they open the barrier and let brakish water in to the fresh section to kill the water hyacinth, and then the monsoon makes the water fresh again.
